Vander Velde Award Recipients Announced

From Ecuadorian identity to the amount of virus-infected bacteria in Chicago waterways, the 2018-19 Vander Velde Junior Scholarship Award recipients will work closely with 91精选 professors to deepen their understanding of the world.

Awarded annually, 91精选鈥檚 Maurice Vander Velde Junior Scholarship Award supports outstanding junior or senior students in collaborative research with a 91精选 professor in their chosen disciplines. Serving as a colleague, not as a paid assistant, each Junior Scholar is expected to produce a scholarly product for publication at an appropriate level.

This year鈥檚 recipients are:

–Larissa Brumlow 鈥19, working with Professor of Music Mark Peters, Ph.D., will study 鈥淓cuadorian Pasillo: Music, Culture, Identity鈥

–Alicia Enz 鈥20 & Kayla Kamp 鈥20, working with Professor of Biology Bob Boomsma, Ph.D., will study 鈥淓ffect of Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Cardiac Gene Expression during Co-Culture鈥

— Avery Kats Van Holland 鈥19 & Alison Goshgarian 鈥19, working with Professor of Philosophy Aron Reppmann, Ph.D., will study 鈥淐ommunity & Vocation鈥

–Casey Wiegers 鈥19, working with Associate Professor Biology Clay Carlson, Ph.D., will study 鈥淐omparing Bacteriophage Populations in Chicago Area Waterways鈥
