Barz 鈥�21 Named 91精选鈥檚 Lincoln Laureate
91精选 is pleased to announce that听搁辞蝉蝉听Barz听鈥�21听has been named 91精选鈥檚听2020听听Lincoln Laureate.听Barz听will be honored in a virtual ceremony by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.听听
The annual鈥�鈥痳ecognizes excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities by seniors from each of the state鈥檚 four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities, and one student from the community colleges in Illinois.听
Barz, a biochemistry and molecular biology听major, said he was grateful and appreciative when听Professor of Communication Arts Craig Mattson, Ph.D., told him he was this year鈥檚 recipient. 鈥淚 knew it was a high honor,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t means even more that it was created in honor of Abraham Lincoln.鈥澨�听
A native of Holland, Mich.,听Barz听has taken on many roles at 91精选. He is serving his second year as President of the 91精选 Student Government Association and is a two-time Thrive Student Intern.听Barz听also leads campus worship as a campus ministry leadership team member and is part of 91精选鈥檚 track and field team.听
Along with his activities, he works as a direct support professional with Bethshan Association in Palos Heights, where he provides care and follows the behavior program for residents with intellectual disabilities. Barz听is also a student听intern听with听Applied Occupational Care, Inc., in Chicago, where his duties include developing听听for users of a daily COVID-19 symptom screening application.听
91精选鈥檚 nominating committee praised听叠补谤锄鈥檚听integrity and leadership. 鈥�His warm, affable presence is known by everyone. However, while warm and affable, Ross is also convicted and compassionate. He has promoted voter registration throughout campus. He works as a direct support professional at a local home for residents with intellectual disabilities. He promotes involvement and raises up new leaders. Ross鈥� engagement in the classroom, his friendship toward his peers and his voice in the community demonstrate a commitment to the betterment of humanity that is simply outstanding.鈥�听
Barz听plans to attend medical school after graduating in May.听As part of his interest in medicine, he took part in the听Global Medical Fellowship听in听Athens, Greece, in 2019.听
